Pattern Draping

Today was the first of four days in Pattern Draping class held by Angelika Werth. Lora and I have been waiting in eager anticipation the last few months and it was definitely worth the wait! Angelika is a knowledgeable and incredibly patient teacher. Today we shaped our dress forms to model our own individual body shapes. It was sooo much fun! Here are some pictures! xoxo Mit

Fashion Week

I know it has been a while since we did a post, so here is an extra long one !

Last week Calgary hosted their own Fall 2010 fashion week featuring either local or Alberta designers. The fashion show took place at “The Bank” which is a beautiful old building. It was at one time, very long ago, a Bank. I absolutely love the huge chandelier, the perfect touch to bring the venue together.

For those lucky enough to sit in the first two rows, they received goodie bags.
.

Matilda and I attended the fashion shows from Thursday to Saturday. I took pictures at each show, and I have to say, my arms sure received a good workout!

While taking pictures at the fashion show, I ran into a few problems as follows:

1) I am terribly short at 5’2, thus all the heads in my photos.
2) It was my first experience taking photos of constant moving objects, it was not the easiest thing to do.
3) Each night the shows were packed and was difficult at times to find a good spot to take photos.

I apologize for the many heads that appear in the photos, there wasn't much I could do about it, even with wearing 5 inch heals, they only do so much.

A modern wedding dress ? What do you think of this outfit?

This collection was comprised mostly of colorful tulle, tutus and matching colored converse shoes (Chuck Taylor). Punkrock meets ballet dancers? What do you think?

One of Mitters favorite outfits of the night.

I can't remember the designer's name, but this was one of my favorite shows to watch last Thursday night. Love the military jackets !

This outfit is interesting, Canadian Girl rock!
I really like the striped pants.

There are many more pictures to come from Friday and Saturday's show. If you attended the shows, love to hear which designers you enjoyed watching.

Oscar 2010

This year Oscar’s red carpet, in my opinion, was one of the best. Very few red carpet misses, instead there were so many fabulous dress, quite a few I wish I could call my own. I had a hard time picking my top 5 favorite looks.

Carey Mulligan

My #1 dress pick of the night is this absolutely gorgeous black Prada dress. I would kill have this dress! I love everything about this dress, the great beaded detail, the sweetheart neckline and the classic hour glass silhouette. It is the perfect little black evening dress.

Diane Kruger

My #2 pick is Diane Kruger in Chanel. Mr. Karl Lagerfeld you can do no wrong. I am a huge fan of Chanel and this dress if fabulous. The color is fantastic, the dress is elegant, yet very simple and feminine.

Rachael McAdams

My #3 is Ellie Saab Haute Couture watercolor pastel dress. This spring dress was a nice break in the sea of formal evening gowns. The various shade of color is the prefect mix to elicit feelings of spring.

Cameron Diaz

My favorite gold dress of the evening is Cameron in Oscar de la renta and she looks just stunning in it. This dress is reminds me of old Hollywood Glamour.

Zoe Saldana

Purple pom pom dress, how can you not smile while admiring this dress. This over the top Givenchy Haute Couture dress is fun, flirty and bold. The best part of this dress is the pom pom mini train. I don’t think anyone else could have carried this off but Zoe Saldana.

I would love to have each of these dress, a girl can dream......

More Olympic Fun

I was sad to leave Vancouver great weather and all the Olympic fun. I still can’t get over how green Vancouver is at this time of year, it felt like summer ! Well, being a Calgarian it would seem like summer, seeing as how we will still have snow and cold weather for a few more months.

One of my favorite venues was the Russia House, which was located at the Vancouver Science Center. It was the largest house as Russia is the next hosting Country for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

On my way to the Russia House, I past the athlete’s village where these Russian athletes were headings.

Great display of Russia Olympic team uniforms.

In the Russia house they had a huge area in which you could sit and watch Olympic sporting events. There were many exhibits to see in the Russia house, of which I tried to take pictures of. However, I got a bit tiered of waiting for people to pass, so I wouldn’t have to many random heads in my pictures. This was a hard thing to do, since it was absolutely packed !

If you wanted, you could take a pictures with one of the Russian’s olympic torch bearer. I opted not to as the line up was long.

Another beautiful day in Vancouver !

At the back of the athlete’s village were the flags of very country participating in the Vancouver Olympics.

On the way to the Quebec house along the bay was hundred upon hundred of inuit inukshuk sculptures. It was an absolute amazing site to see.

I couldn’t leave without seeing the Olympic Cauldron. It is surround by a chain link fence. If you wanted a picture of the Cauldron without the fence in the background or to get a closer look of it, once again you had to stand in a very long line to walk up to a podium to do so. Instead I got my 6 foot boyfriend to stand on a tall parking barricade to take a picture of the cauldron.

The crowds of people at the Olympic Cauldron was insane. Can you spot the tourist from Calgary? Gotta love the white cowboy hat!

One of my favorite things while in Vancouver, was the drive through Stanley Park at night. The scenery was absolutely beautiful You can see the Olympic Cauldron from the other side with out the eyesore of the fence being in the way. Pan Pacific Hotel lit each of their sails in a color of an Olympic ring, it was really pretty. Unfortunate my camera is not the greatest for taking night pictures and I couldn’t get a great close up of it.

I am absolute trilled that I was able to be in Vancouver for the Olympics. It is an experience I will never forget and so very glad I did.
