Robin Awards 2010

Every year, we have the pleasure of dressing up for the fun filled Robin Awards. My boyfriend's friend, Robin Harnett, throws a large event in celebration of... Himself! And his top 10 favorite friends from the previous year. What started as a small scale event has grown to be a large even that brings in almost 200 guests!

There's a new theme each year! This year - Batman & Robin! Chris, my boyfriend, did an amazing job designing the awards, as he does each year!

At the event there was a red carpet, where we couldn't pass up the chance to have a group photo taken of us in our finest!

Damo
Damo keeps it simple yet sharp that night! The Club Monaco scarf was definitely the feature! For an alternative to formal attire, clean basics paired with an eye-catching accessory make the outfit complete! Who said you always have to wear a suit!

Lora
Lora's look was certainly memorable! Especially, her latest design for Bui Accessories!! The top hat was perfect. It's the ideal way to make a masculine hat extremely feminine! Everyone couldn't stop checking it out!!

As for her outfit, the back and white was stunning and the tiny hint of purple from the tulle was the perfect accent!!

Matilda

To some, this dress may look familiar... If you guessed the dress from the opening scene of Sex and the City: The Movie, where Carrie runs to Big, you're right! Mit tried on this dress 4 times - each time looking amazing - and finally bought i on Boxing Day! I have rarely seem Mit in green, but it's definitely a great color on her! The purple shoes were the perfect compliment to this vibrant dress!!

Angela
First off, let me just say - Ang you have amazing legs!!! Looking sexy in the perfect colors for the evening's theme! Yellow, orange & white work perfectly on Ang! The mix of textures on the dress give it wonderful depth!! The floral necklace ties everything together beautifully!!

Nicole (Me)
Well, knowing the comic book theme, bright red seemed right! I went for a mod squad look. The basic red dress was the perfect piece to pair with my two-tone leggings, which I'm absolutely in love with. I love the black, white & red color combination. To bring the look together, and give it a bit of a feminine flare, I added my giant bow headband! I was worried about the look coming together as I was getting ready, but I must say, I was quite pleased how it looked in the end!!

Golden Globes

Let's just say all the women walking down the this evening's Golden Globes red carpet looked amazing! Usually there are more flops than winners, but tonight I was pleasantly surprised with all the beautiful gowns and strong women wearing them!

Here are my 4 favorite of the night (not so easy to choose):

Julianne Moore
This is a dress I would die to wear. 1 - it's in one of my favorite colors, grey! and 2 - it's totally sexy without being tight and overly showy. I would have to say this was my favorite dress of the night! So modern and chic!! And Tom Ford makes a great date!

Maggie Gyllenhaal
I really love the modern structural folds on this classic silhouette! Maggie is so poised and beautiful! I love how the color of the dress almost blends into her skin. Stunning is the best word for her look!

Zoe Saldana
This dress is so feminine in a messy way - I love it!! I don't know what it is about ribbons and ruffles, but I just love them! This dress is quite eye catching.

Cameron Diaz
In typical fashion, Cameron Diaz looks breath taking. I particularly love the strong shoulders on this dress! Short sleeves isn't something you would usually see on the red carpet, but I love they made it! I think it adds a nice dimension to an evening gown!

The red carpet tonight was filled with eye candy that I thoroughly enjoyed!!!

What were your favorite dresses of the night??

Day 3 -Polka Dots + Crinoline = Stylish Fun

I am little behind on posting as it has been a very busy week !

On Day 3, I opted for my black & white A-line polka dot skirt.

I saw this sweater and instantly fell in love with it. My first thought was “ I had to have it”. I was determined to go to every Anthropolgie store in New York to find it ! Luckily, I only had to visit two before I had this beautiful sweater in my possession. Even the bows on this sweater has polka dots !

This yellow crinoline slip accentuate today’s outfit. It gives my A-line black & white polka dot skirt fullness in all the right places, and I especially like how the crinoline peaks out a bit when I am walking or sitting down.

I was thrilled when I found these suede black button booties. I have always wanted a pair of booties that look similar to the ones worn in the roaring 20’s (one of my favorite eras). I am still on the hunt for black and white ones, if anyone knows where I can find them, please let me know.

Polka Dots- Day 2

My Polka dot piece of the day is this adorable skirt I picked up in New York a few summers ago. The lace trim on the bottom of the skirt is just darling. I thought my purple tights would be a great complement to my outfit, instead of going for my regular black tights.

I am completely enamored by my new black cardigan. This cardigan goes with everything !!! The more I wear it, the more I love it. The picture does not give the beading detailing justice. I wish you could see the beaded rose buttons, which are also on each three quarter sleeve. I love the beaded detail down the front of the sweater, it adds a romantic feel to it.

I love wearing high heels, and I can not stress the word ” love” enough as they add so much to my 5’2 frame ! I like how the painted on cork is so unexpected on these 4 inch black patent wedges.

Polka Dots, Polka Dots, Polka Dots !!!!

I have recently been hit with the polka dot bug, and can’t seem to get enough of them !! While rearranging my closet this weekend, I notice that I have acquired quite a few polka dot pieces. So, I thought I would do an entire week of outfits inspired by polka dots.

Being the start of a new work week, I wanted to kick it off in comfort. I opted for my very comfortable black dress with my favorite red sweater. Then going with my theme I wore my black and white polka dots tights.

Statement necklaces are a must ! I thought this flower necklace would add the prefect touch of fun. I love how each flower is comprised of a different type of material. Girly and fun all in one.

Day 7 - Chunky Necklace

So Brittany and I have decided to take pictures of each other during the week! This is so I can avoid taking groggy pictures of me in front of my closet doors!

Today I wanted to wear this crazy chunky necklace! It's so fun, and I like it as the statement with a basic outfit. Every time I walked around today the circles would make a funny clacking noise! Fortunately, it wasn't annoying or loud!

Thanks Brittany for wanting to take photos with me!

Day 5 & 6 - Busy Weekend

On Saturday, I went out with Chris for a casual date! I wanted to mix sophistication with casual. I like the way I'm wearing my boyfriend jeans this night! It was a lot warmer on Saturday night so my open toe bootie wedges seemed like the right idea. I love these boots! I bought them in Paris and they're completely chic! What is it about shoes that make women go weak at the knees?! Hehe...

There are lots of details in this outfit you can't see. Unfortunately, my camera battery died while I was taking these shots! Maybe I will wear this look again to capture the fun details in the look!

Top: One Step
Blazer: Club Monaco
Jeans: Gap
Shoes: Eden Shoes
Bag: Marc Jacobs

On Sunday, I went for a lovely lunch at Chris' mom's place, but I was running super behind and wasn't able to take a picture. It was one of those days where nothing was working! I just couldn't put a look together that I liked! But the look I ended up with was quite nice! I'll wear it again this week so you can see it!!!

Day 4 - TGIF

So, today it Friday, and I was craving to wear my oh-so-comfy boyfriend jeans. But in the winter it's tough, because I never know what shoes to wear. Sure heels work, but what about flats? With snow on the ground you're forced to wear boots and boyfriend jeans don't look great when they aren't rolled up....

All this was going on in my head on a groggy Friday morning - gah!

I put this super cute leopard print cardi on with a brown T and I think from the ankles up it looked amazing! But I'm still unsure about the boots with the jeans...what are your thoughts?

How do you like to wear boyfriend jeans in the winter?

This is what I wore to stay warm outside to keep warm in this chilly weather! I love this coat, and even though it's baggy is works well boyfriend jeans!

Day 3 - Blue Tights

If you're wondering why I haven't posted in a couple days - it's not because I've given in and blown my $1000 - haha! Rather, I've been busy these last couple days and haven't has time to post!

So, here's day 3! I took a dress I bought last summer and winter-ized it! I put my favorite grey cardigan and some heavy boots with it! I think this is a great way to get the most out of some of your summer stuff!

Today, I tried something new - I wore colorful tights! Usually, I only wear black tights, but I tried royal blue! The blue did a great job pulling out the blue flowers in the dress! At first I was unsure if I could pull off colored tights, but as the day went on, I grew to really like them! I will be wearing colored tights more often!!

What do you think of fun colored tights??

Day 2 - Stripes!

Today, I opted for stripes and my high waisted jeans. I've been wanting a striped top for some time, and recently I found this top on sale at Club Monaco - it was like it was meant to be! I really like the look of horizontal stripes with high waisted pants - it's looks sharp! In fact, I received a bunch of compliments on this look, so I think you will see this a few more time this year!

How do you like to wear stripes?

I love love love owl necklaces so to add a little something to this look I added some sparkle with my latest owl!
Top: Club Monaco
Jeans: Habitual
Shoes: Arnold Churgin
Necklaces: Forever 21

PS - I think I need to find another time to take pictures because 7am, before the has risen, is tricky - not to mention I'm still a little groggy!!

See you tomorrow!

Day 1 of 365

Today is the first day of my "do more with less" challenge! So far I'm still feeling pumped about this. A lot of my friends are supportive of my endeavor, but think it's a bit crazy and hard! I'm up to the challenge!

I work in a creative environment, so I don't have a dress code meaning I can dress how I feel each day, which is quite nice. I wanted to be in flats as I had to walk on slippery snow making function my priority. I also wanted to wear this t-shirt my mom bought me for Christmas!

2010 Challenge: $1000 for 1 Year

Since I have had the luxury of living at home & having earned money since I was 12, I've come to love fashion & have what some may call expensive taste. And knowing this is my last year at home, I know my expensive taste on frivolous things, like fashion, won't be possible - tear!

In my last year at home, I plan to save save save. Although, I've been saving for some time & feel I have done quite well, I would like to maximize my safety net prior to departing!

To truly learn how to do more with less, I've given myself a challenge for 2010 - only spend $1000 on clothes, shoes & accessories over the course of the year, while remaining stylish!

I will learn to sew from my mom, a trained fashion designer (now a fabulous interior designer). This way, if there's an amazing dress, skirt or top that I can't afford, I will make it - well try to.

This will not be easy. In fact, I think it will be hard & sometimes sad. But, I want to learn how to do more with less! Who knows, maybe I'll be surprised to learn how much I can do with less! At least, that's how I felt when I bought my Smart Car.

So, I will try to document my look everyday for the next 365 days, along with any purchases and the remaining amount from my initial $1000. This will encourage me not to slack off!

I am both excited & scared to do this for reasons only another fashion lover could understand! And when I'm feeling fashion deprived, I will look to my friends & live vicariously through them!

Here I go...
